Conference Overview

The IYOG 2022 Conference for South-East Asia, Australia and New Zealand is inspired by ideas of glass as vision, reflection and imagination. Thank you for your interest!

The conference is underpinned by the United Nation’s goals in “Agenda 2030”: to demonstrate the role of glass in advancing civilization throughout recorded history; to reaffirm the links between glass, art and culture; to stimulate research on glass in education, technology, and the public domain, including museums; to build global alliances in glass practice and research; to celebrate glass’s role in achieving sustainable and equitable growth and in improving the quality of life everywhere.

The conference will focus on Region 16 of IYOG 2022, which encompasses South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and the Pacific.  Panels will explore the possibilities of glass as a creative and innovative medium in art, art history, architecture and building, archaeology, the sciences (botanical, zoological, earth, physics, chemistry, engineering, health sciences and astronomy).  The conference invites both historical and contemporary perspectives and cross-disciplinary approaches are encouraged.

The Conference Committee welcomes panel proposals exploring themes such as:

  • Glass and sustainability
  • Glass and contemporary cultural practice
  • Glass within the sciences
  • Glass within the humanities
  • Glass and First Peoples
